Welcome to GFOA Alberta’s Individual and Corporate Memberships
If you’re currently, have been, or are studying to become, a professional in the finance or accounting industries and would like to become a member or GFOA Alberta, we’d love to have you! We have a number of non-municipal memberships that are available to individuals and to corporate entities or groups, so you’re welcome as well.

Associate Member – any person not eligible for active membership who is interested in the principles and practices of governmental finance and who subscribes to the purposes of the Association.
Alberta Municipalities / RMA employees are Associate member
Accounting Firms, Accountants not employeed in the Public Sector and other corporate entities are Associate Members
Active Member – includes any person employed in the public sector in the province who has governmental accounting or financial responsibility, regardless of their title.
The public sector is defined as including:
- Local government
- Provincial government
- Federal government
- Public agencies affiliated with local government
Alberta Municipal Affairs employees are Active Voting members
Federal and Provincial Government Employees in the accounting and finance fields are Active Voting Members. (Note that municipal government employees usually join through their municipality)
Non-voting Active Member – includes any person employed in the public sector (not in the province) who has governmental accounting or financial responsibility, regardless of their title.
The public sector is defined as including:
- Local government
- Provincial government
- Federal government
- Public agencies affiliated with local government
Non-Voting Active members include retirees from municipal, provincial or federal governments, students in accounting or finance who are interested in local government, and finance interns. (Note that municipal interns are submitted through their municiplaities).

GFOA Alberta is a professional organization whose purpose is to enhance the practice of governmental finance in the Province of Alberta. Our objectives include:
- Promote networking opportunities for all government finance officials within all levels of government
- Support and promotion of Provincial, Canadian and International GFOA Conferences and training programs
- Communication with membership on financial issues
- Liaison with Municipal Affairs
- Enhance the profile of GFOA Alberta.
Our Association is affiliated with the International Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and maintains contact with its staff to promote training opportunities and participation in annual international GFOA conferences.
