Welcome to the 2024 GFOA  Alberta Conference at the Fantasyland Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta, June 2-5, 202! We’re gearing up for another impactful event, and looking forward to seeing you there! GFOA Alberta’s Annual Conference 2024 promises to be a highlight of the year, featuring Keynote Speakers, Breakout Sessions, Panels, Networking Events, and more. Whether you are a delegate or sponsor/exhibitor, you will not want to miss a moment, so be sure to register soon.

Can Non-Members Attend the GFOA Alberta Conference?

Definitely! Non-members must purchase a non-member ticket, but may attend all sessions, keynotes and workshops, as well as participate in any additional activities.

Remember, members of GFOA Alberta receive a discount on registration and add-ons, so if you’re considering joining GFOA Alberta in 2024, you’ll save on your registration to the Conference as well as sessions and additional events during the year!

Can I Bring a Spouse or Partner to the Conference?

Please do! We’re delighted to invite you to bring along your spouse or partner to enjoy the hotel, and all the fun of the Edmonton Fantasyland Shopping Center too! If you’d like to attend the Gala Banquet together, please be sure to purchase the Add-On for the Gala for your Spouse or Partner. The Gala Banquet is already included in the member and Non-member Conference 2024 Pass.

When will the Conference schedule be available?

The Conference Schedule is being developed now, and details will be available on the Schedule page as we confirm our speakers and sessions. The Conference itself opens Sunday,June 02, and closes Wednesday, June 05, 2024.

Are Refunds Available if my Plans Change?

We understand that things come up and plans may have to change, so we are happy to make refunds available until April 15, 2024.

After that date you may request a transfer of your registration to another person in your municipality if you know someone who can attend in your place, but refunds will no longer be available for either the Conference or the Gala Dinner.

Will There be a Golf Tournament this Year?

Indeed there will! We know that the GFOA AB Golf Tournament is a favorite among our members and non-members alike, so we’re delighted to announce that Sunday, June 2 will kick-off with the Golf Tournament at the Devon Golf Course in Edmonton. If you’d like to participate, be sure to include the Golf Tournament Add-On when you register for the Conference.

Remember, you can include one spouse or partner when you purchase your Gof Addd-on, and you must be attending the Conference to participate in the Golf Tournament. Spots for golf fill up very quickly and are limited, so be sure to include golf if you’re interested when you register.

Can Non Alberta-Based GFOA members or Non-Members Attend?

Absolutely!

GFOA members from other areas are welcome to come in at member rates, and non-members from surrounding areas are welcome at regular rates anytime. We’d be delighted to meet you and welcome you to the great GFOA Alberta community!

Non-members may register online, and GFOA members from surrounding areas can reach out to programs@gfoa.ab.ca for a coupon to receive the member discount rate.

Ian McCormack, CMC

Strategic Steps President Ian McCormack has a broad range of experience including work in
government, forprofit, and non-profit areas.

In the past few years, he has worked in two US states, three Canadian provinces, all of Canada’s northern territories, and in Australia. His areas of focus include local government, ethics, libraries, post-secondary education, and non-profit organizations.

His first book on the principles of good governance, Who’s Driving the Grader and Other Governance Questions was published by Municipal World in 2020. His second book, The DNA of Great Leaders is about the attributes of the best functioning mayors, reeves, & board chairs came out in 2022.

Since launching her book, The Emotionally Strong Leader: An Inside-Out Journey to Transformational Leadership, Carolyn has quickly gained acclaim following her appearances on The Social, CTV Your Morning, Daytime Chicago, and Global TV.
Her book was awarded the Axiom Book Award for the Best Business Book in 2023 in the leadership
category and the 2022 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award in the career category.

Carolyn’s emotional intelligence courses and modules have been adopted by top universities, and she has trained over 35,000 business leaders across the continent in highly regarded corporations.

Don Iveson

Don Iveson

City of Edmonton Mayor, Retired

 

Don served as Edmonton’s Mayor from 2013 until 2021, and Chair of Canada’s Big City Mayors for 5 years. Since retiring from City Hall, he continues to live in Edmonton. He works part-time with Co-Operators as Executive Advisor for Climate Investment and Community Resilience.

Don is also ramping up Civic Good, a public policy advisory practice working on climate resilience, housing innovation, and civic innovation projects with like-minded clients ranging from startups to governments.

He has accepted an appointment as a School of Cities Canadian Urban Leader at the University of Toronto, is a member of the Expert Panel on Adaptation at the Canadian Climate Institute, and volunteers as Board Co-Chair of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness.
