GFOA Alberta and Tantus Present:

“AI & Data Enablement:
Organizational Readiness & Data/AI Governance”
17 September 2026 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

What You Will Learn:

Municipal finance teams are under pressure to produce faster reporting, stronger audit trails and better financial advice, often with smaller teams and financial data spread across ERP systems, documents and spreadsheets. AI can provide additional capacity, but it can be
difficult to know where to start without compromising privacy, control or accountability.

This session looks beyond the hype to examine what local governments are learning as they apply AI to everyday administrative and finance work. Using documented examples, Tantus will explore the conditions that make an AI initiative practical. These include a clearly defined
problem, reliable and well-managed filing systems, data, human validation, staged implementation, and measurable results.

Participants will learn the differences between automation, analytics and generative AI, how to assess whether their data is ready, and what privacy and governance foundations should be in place. The session will also outline how to structure a realistic pilot, taking a measured
path from exploration to implementation.

GFOA Alberta and Tantus Present:

“Operational Service Reviews & Service Catalogues
26 November 2026 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

What You Will Learn:

There is a wave of interest from municipalities to use service management (service definition, service level articulation and service costing) to better manage resident expectations, understand the ramification of service level changes and provide overall better management of municipal delivery. The reality has shown that this is harder than it looks!

This session will outline the use of these tools for operational reviews, budget preparation and operational management with examples drawn from real-world local governments. It will conclude with a discussion of how to get started and the do’s and don’ts of such projects.

This session will be well suited to a range of municipal administration roles, including Finance, Corporate Services, Senior Leadership roles, Legislative Services and Corporate Planning teams to better understand how to determine services and service levels for their municipality, and use that information to support decision-making, and to drive organizational value.
